The Walt Disney Company joined the post-Star Wars sci-fi boom with this ambitious 20,000 Leagues under the Sea-in-space, in which a team of space explorers is imperiled by a brilliant madman piloting a long-lost starship manned by robots, obsessed with journeying through a black hole. The first Disney production to receive a PG rating, it benefited from its imaginative production design and Oscar-nominated cinematography and visual effects and has gained a cult following in the decades since its original release.
