Make a camera-less movie at the Academy Museum.
Animate directly on 16mm film using simple materials like markers, tape, pushpins, and ink, and create your own vibrant, moving-image collages on celluloid film. Afterward, we’ll edit the individual strips together and screen them through a 16mm projector, creating a community-made film.
Additional family-friendly activities will include keychain-making with celluloid film strips.
About Tactile Filmmaking Workshops
The Tactile Filmmaking Workshops are interactive and accessible workshops to learn about direct-on-film animation techniques.
Participants will collaborate on creating vibrant moving-image collages on 16mm film using simple materials like markers, tape, pushpins, and ink. At the end of the workshop, the individual strips of film will be spliced together and screened through a 16mm film projector, bringing together a community-made, collaborative... film.
Like the beautiful network of community members throughout our city, these workshops are a reminder that each individual film strip is unique, but when combined, show the power and beauty of collective action.
If you have any questions or need assistance planning your visit, please email filmeducation@oscars.org.
