Mystery Mammals

Did you know that our oceans are the last unexplored frontier on planet earth?  Oceans cover 70% of the earth’s surface, but only 20% of our oceans have been explored! Discover aquatic ecosystems and mystery creatures that live under the sea! Explorers will investigate dolphin habitats, uncover the diets of crab eater seals, and engage in a vessel-boat strike STEAM challenge!

Session I: Tucuxi- Discover amazing facts about the enchanting Tucuxi, their fresh water habitat and the threats they face in the wild.  In this session, explorers will become ecosystem experts investigating biomes all over the world as well as gaining knowledge about the Amazon River Basin. Explorers will be put to the test in a game of ‘balancing the biome’ within the Amazon River Basin. Can you help us save the Tucuxi and their habitat?

Session II: Minke Whales – Minke Whales are members of the baleen or ‘great’ whale family and are the most abundant of all the baleen whales! Since they can be found in oceans all over the world, Minke Whales face numerous threats such as vessel strikes due to heavy ship traffic.  In this session, explorers will investigate the rise of shipping traffic along Minke whale migration routes and then work together in teams to complete a vessel strike STEAM challenge!

Session III: Crab Eater Seal- Crab eater seals must eat crab, right? Think again! Explorers will uncover the crab eater seal’s diet, work together to understand the Antarctic ice biome and play a bio magnification food web game!
